Recovery Readiness Assessment

Understanding where you are in your recovery journey is the first step toward meaningful progress. Our Recovery Readiness Assessment uses a validated self-reflection framework to help you identify your current stage and connect with the programs best suited to your needs. Your responses are processed entirely in your browser and are never stored, transmitted, or shared with anyone.

Assessment Framework

Grounded in the Stages of Change Model

Our Recovery Readiness Assessment is informed by the Transtheoretical Model of Change developed by psychologists James Prochaska and Carlo DiClemente. This widely validated framework recognizes that behavior change is not an all-or-nothing event but a process that unfolds through distinct stages: pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance.

By evaluating six key dimensions of recovery readiness — self-awareness, support network strength, life stability, physical and mental health management, coping skill repertoire, and motivational alignment — the assessment maps your responses to a stage-matched set of program recommendations. This ensures you receive guidance that meets you exactly where you are, without pressure to be anywhere else.

The tool was developed in collaboration with our clinical advisory team, including Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Addiction Counselors, and Certified Peer Support Specialists. It draws on screening principles from SAMHSA’s Treatment Improvement Protocols (TIPs) and the Recovery Capital framework established by William White and colleagues.

The Six Dimensions We Assess

1
Self-Awareness

Recognition of how substance use affects daily functioning, relationships, and personal goals. This dimension assesses insight and readiness to acknowledge challenges honestly.

2
Support Network

The presence, quality, and accessibility of people who understand and actively support recovery efforts, from family and friends to professional and peer communities.

3
Life Stability

Housing security, employment status, financial stability, and daily routine structure, all of which provide the practical foundation upon which recovery is built.

4
Physical & Mental Health

Management of co-occurring physical conditions, mental health disorders, and access to healthcare providers who understand addiction treatment.

5
Coping Skills

The repertoire and effectiveness of strategies used to manage cravings, emotional distress, and high-risk situations without returning to substance use.

6
Motivation & Goals

Internal drive for change, clarity of personal recovery goals, and willingness to invest time and effort in the recovery process.
